Feelings have always been a tricky thing for me. Being raised in a conservative baptist church, led by a pastor with strong Calvinist leanings, I learned first and foremost that my feelings were not to be trusted. Most feelings told us what our flesh – our bodies, our essential sinful nature – wanted. And our flesh was always trying to lead us away from God. It could never want what is good and right. At the same time, we had to make sure we had all the correct feelings about what we were doing or not doing.
